Choose from SAT and ACT preparation, SHSAT preparation, Pre-SHSAT ELA and mathematics preparation for grades 3–7, and private tutoring. Offerings vary by season and may be available in person or online, through group classes or private instruction.
SAT/ACT Preparation
Mini Ivy offers structured SAT and ACT preparation through group classes and private instruction, with both in-person and online options available.
Digital SAT instruction covers Reading and Writing and Math. Students practice comprehension, vocabulary in context, grammar, rhetorical analysis, and interpreting information presented in tables and graphs. The course also includes a comprehensive review of SAT Math topics and strategies for using the built-in Desmos calculator efficiently.
ACT preparation focuses on English, Math, and Reading, including the content, pacing, strategies, and question types specific to each section. Instruction and practice are tailored to the student’s strengths, areas for improvement, and testing goals.
SHSAT Preparation
Mini Ivy offers SHSAT preparation for students working toward admission to New York City’s Specialized High Schools. Group classes and private instruction are available, with both in-person and online options.
Instruction covers the mathematics and English Language Arts skills tested on the SHSAT. Students receive targeted practice, learn effective test-taking strategies, and strengthen the foundational skills needed to approach the exam confidently.
Programs vary by grade level and season and may include Pre-SHSAT courses, summer preparation, and intensive practice-test and review sessions.
Private Tutoring
Mini Ivy provides personalized one-on-one tutoring for students from kindergarten through high school. Sessions are tailored to each student’s learning style, academic needs, goals, and pace.
Tutoring is available in mathematics, English, science, test preparation, and study skills. Subjects may include algebra, geometry, calculus, reading, writing, grammar, biology, chemistry, physics, SAT preparation, and Regents preparation.
Our tutors identify areas for improvement, explain challenging concepts in manageable steps, and teach effective study and problem-solving strategies. The goal is to strengthen understanding, build confidence, and encourage increasingly independent learning.

ELA/Math Prep — Grades 3–7
Mini Ivy offers grade-appropriate Pre-SHSAT ELA and mathematics preparation for students in grades 3–7. These classes help students get ahead in school while gradually building the reading, language, mathematics, and problem-solving skills they will need when they eventually take the SHSAT.
Because students begin preparing before their SHSAT year, instruction emphasizes strong academic foundations, steady skill development, and confidence rather than short-term test preparation.
A separate Statewide ELA and Math Intensive Preparation program for grades 4–7 may be offered in the spring. Beginning approximately two to three months before the statewide tests, the program includes 10 practice tests—5 ELA and 5 mathematics—along with guided review sessions.
